When I was a kid, there was a store in Portland, Me. that kept a little basket with Marimekko scraps, and I would get pretty electrified when I could buy a few. The saturated colors and bold graphics made me giddy. Just looking at them made me feel somehow "sophisticated" (no doubt while sporting some tragic 70's outfit with LLBean boots)*. Looking at the designs today, I don't get quite the same feeling. Is it me, or are they a whole lot fussier than they used to be?

* Not much has changed in that department, I admit.
