Art and Money $¢€₤

I've been reading comments to a guy asking how best to invest money as an artist on Edward Winkleman's blog (via Tim McFarlane.) It is a little dizzying. Advice runs the gamut from using money to buy time and hole up in the studio, to investing in real estate, doing a long residency, buying equipment, etc.

If you got some extra dough, how would you use it to advance your work?

I would take classes if possible or go somewhere to consentrate on just one thing.

Yeah, I was wondering if any residency program would let me bring Louise.

I'd love to do some printmaking in a place where I could get help and have access to equipment I wouldn't want/need to own.

I have a residency program idea for you. You'll have to wait a year, though--the next winner takes over in October.

I would rent a studio or find a bigger house with an extra room so I can separate studio/office...there is never enough space here!

Hi Olivia - I can't remember if I've seen shots of your work zone before. Have you posted them anywhere? (I love love seeing people's creative space.)

I live in a one-bedroom apartment, and used the "living room" as a studio for a long time which was fine but claustrophobic. I'm lucky to have a studio space now that's a short walk from my apartment and I appreciate the separation, making a mental switch. (Also can't go online there, which is good...)
